UTN Training Limited specialise in training courses for Health and Safety and Construction skills. The company was established in 1996 and is based in Wakefield close to the M1/M62/A1 travel network. Courses are run at their training centre or at client premises and can be tailored to meet specific needs.

For several years the company used a system based on a Microsoft Access database to cover most of their core business processes for course management, bookings and certification. In light of an increasing level of business and the need to maintain its high standards to customers, the company decided that a new system was required to provide a solid foundation for the future. In particular there was a need to improve performance, extend functionality and provide better quality information to management. It was essential for the company to retain all historical information and that the transition to a new system did not cause any disruption to the business. UTN produced an outline statement of requirements for the new system and invited proposals from several potential suppliers. After assessment and further discussions UTN chose Soltec as the supplier for a complete replacement of its existing system.

Soltec carried out an in-depth examination of the business requirements and its existing systems. Together with UTN we produced a detail specification and conversion plan for a system to satisfy current and future needs. Following development, testing and training the system was successfully implemented in October 2005. The changeover involved transfer of information from more than 60 tables in the existing Access database. Microsoft.Net and SQL database technologies were used to provide a fast, robust and future-proof environment for the business.
