Principal Teachers was launched in 2001 by Rebecca Morgan, an experienced teacher. Since then the company has grown rapidly to become a major supplier of teachers and teaching assistants to schools in the North East and North Yorkshire. From the outset Principal Teachers adopted an ethical approach to the provision of high quality supply teachers. Its value-for-money service is very refreshing when compared to other agencies who take advantage of a school with an urgent need for a teacher. The company has a stringent recruitment process to ensure that its teachers are of the highest standard. Based on these principles it is not surprising that the company quickly established an enviable reputation and grew rapidly based on excellent testimonials.
Having reached a certain level of trading the company recognised that its existing mixture of spreadsheet and paper based processes would be unable to cope with further growth. A new system was needed to reduce the administration workload, improve the quality and accessibility of information and provide a sound basis for future expansion. Following discussions with Business Link the company decided to issue a tender for the supply of a suitable system. After assessment of the responses the company invited Soltec to make further investigations. We carried out an in-depth examination of the business needs and its existing processes and produced a detailed specification for a new system. Development of the system was completed during the next two months, followed by testing, training and implementation activities. The system became operational in time for the new academic year starting in September 2005.
All the mainline business activities are covered including the recruitment process and legislative checks, booking of jobs, matching jobs to teachers based on availability and skill set, timesheet recording, invoicing and production of management reports. Feedback from schools and teachers can be recorded for quality purposes and action reminders can be produced. The system can be interfaced to Sage accounts packages.
